The Blood Service is proud to have served the Australian healthcare sector for more than 80 years. Over this time, we have developed state-of-the-art scientific, medical and manufacturing capabilities and established a national infrastructure that is world-class.
We collect, test, process and distribute all blood in Australia. More than 500,000 generous Australians give their time and blood through around 1.3 million donations each year, creating over two million life-saving products.
We have started a new chapter in the Blood Service story, and are now innovating and growing by extending our infrastructure and capabilities to support the healthcare industry and ultimately deliver improved patient outcomes.
Our capabilities include:
- Specialist advice: Scientists, microbiologists, transfusion specialists, researchers, quality assurance experts, regulatory affairs experts, nurses and more
- State-of-the-art GMP manufacturing facilities: Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Facilities include research and development, clean rooms, cold chain logistics and more
- Quality assurance: Our GMP manufacturing facilities are licensed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and our laboratories accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), and
- Testing services: Capacity to perform over four million blood tests each year, including red cell reference, nucleic acid testing, infectious disease serological screening and more.
