The Transgenic facility has a proven capability in the creation of transgenic rodent models through ES cell transfection and DNA injection techniques including the use of BAC, YAC and viral transgenesis. The facility is able to provide additional advanced reproductive services including Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI mediated transgenesis) and in vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedures.

DNA constructs are electroporated in our facility into mouse or rat ES cells. After selection, clones are picked and screened by Southern Blot. The correctly targeted clones are then thawed and expanded and only after re-confirmation by Southern and sequencing, they are injected into blastocysts by the Transgenic Services at Monash.

Two biological isolator facilities have been established to facilitate clinical development of human cell-based therapies. Established under the auspices of the Victorian Consortium for Cell-based Therapies (VCCT), the isolators provide a complete barrier from environmental and operator-borne contamination and are therefore ideally suited for aseptic processing.
