Based at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Parkville, our open access, state-of-the-art analytical laboratory makes available sophisticated physical and chemical characterisation techniques to compliment your research and to help overcome the challenges faced in modern drug development.

At the HMSTrust Laboratory you will have access to a comprehensive suite of chemical characterisation instruments including advanced IR, Raman, GC/MS?MS and LC/MS/MS capability for stability assessment, API characterisation or identification of extractables and leachables in pharmaceutical preparations.

Our team of pharmaceutical scientists can assist you in:

  • Characterisation of phase/form and API assay/impurities/degradants;
  • the development and validation of bioanalytical methods for preclinical studies;
  • designing programs for pre-formulation or formulation stage projects; and
  • solving problems related to your existing development program.

Instrument bookings
The HMS Trust lab is open to both Monash and external customers and user training is available for all instruments. Instruments can be booked on an hourly basis after training is complete.

Instruments

DSC ARIN

Differential scanning calorimeter used for to measure changes in a material’s heat capacity as it is heated or cooled. This allows for the detection of thermal transitions including melts, crystallizations, glass transition temperatures, and phase changes.

A Fourier transform transmission infra-red microscope capable of point, line and grid scanning and spectral mapping with an ATR attachment used for acquiring optical images, IR spectra and chemical distribution maps using IR spectra.
