Recombinant DNA Techniques course

Genetic Engineering technologies are at the forefront of biological and medical science.

And the internationally renowned Recombinant DNA Techniques course run by Micromon at Monash University teaches the skills needed in molecular biology. The course is now in its 28th year.

By registering for this six day course YOU can learn the key skills underpinning the field of molecular biology.

  • Dates:  1- 6 December 2013
  • Place: The teaching laboratories at Department of Microbiology, Monash University Clayton, Victoria, Australia.
  • Price: $1900 (ex-GST) all inclusive
    • Includes 10 hours of lectures and 30 hours of practical experimental work (one tutor per four participants)
    • Price also includes daily gourmet lunches, refreshments, drinks and snacks each evening with a social dinner on the Thursday.  A course certificate will be awarded on completion.

Examples of some of the Practical lab techniques are:

  • Plasmid DNA preparation, cleavage and litigation
  • Recovering DNA from agarose gels
  • DIG based southern blotting and hybridisation
  • Polyacrylamide electrophoresis and western blotting
  • DNA sequencing and computer aided analysis.

Ten hours theory is supplied by experienced lecturers who are experts in their fields.

Some examples of Lectures are:

  • Introduction to DNA and Molecular Biology
  • Gene cloning techniques
  • Genomic library construction
  • Design and use of oligonucleotide primers
  • Real time PCR
  • DNA Sequencing

Micromon will demonstrate

  • Capillary platform DNA sequencing (AB)
  • Oligonucleotide synthesis (AB)
  • Next generation sequencing (Illumina)
