The BMTF aims to provide an environment in which the existing research expertise from partners and collaborators will come together to create critical mass in collaborative multidisciplinary research teams, to develop new materials for devices, diagnostics, delivery technologies, imaging agents and the assessment of these materials through new, non-invasive, in situ imaging techniques.
The University of Melbourne led consortium places emphasis on being engaged with the scientific community to enable appropriate usage of biomedical imaging technologies. It aims to promote collaboration between human preclinical, human clinical and large animal researchers with the common goal of improving health outcomes using ONEHEALTH as the research approach.
The Melbourne Brain Centre Imaging Facility, located at the University of Melbourne's Parkville Campus, hosts state-of-the-art PET/CT and 7 TMRI scanners. Established through a $2 million grant from the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, the Centre includes a Mediso Nanoscan PET/MRI Imaging Platform, a Mediso Nanoscan SPECT/CT Imaging Platform and an IVIS Spectrum Bioluminescent and Fluorescence Imaging Unit for medical research and preclinical investigations.
