Werribee Animal Health Facility (WAHF)

The Werribee Animal Health Facility (WAHF), comprises almost 20 acres of grazing areas, stock yards and animal room accommodation for medium to large animal species requiring QC1 to QC2 levels of microbiological, quarantine approved, containment.

Transgenic Services

The Transgenic facility has a proven capability in the creation of transgenic rodent models through ES cell transfection and DNA injection techniques including the use of BAC, YAC and viral transgenesis. The facility is able to provide additional advanced reproductive services including Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI mediated transgenesis) and in vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedures.

Gene Recombineering Facility

Custom designed targeting constructs, conditional knock-outs, knock-ins, reporter lines, point mutations, humanised genes, FLP deleter, CRE deleter transgenic constructs, BAC modifications for multiple organisms (mice, rat, human, primate, zebrafish, axolotl) southern screening strategies including cloning of southern probes. CRISPR technology, genotyping strategies, construct design.

ARMI ES Cell Core

DNA constructs are electroporated in our facility into mouse or rat ES cells. After selection, clones are picked and screened by Southern Blot. The correctly targeted clones are then thawed and expanded and only after re-confirmation by Southern and sequencing, they are injected into blastocysts by the Transgenic Services at Monash.

Victorian Consortium for Cell-based Therapies (VCCT) Biological Isolator Facilities

Two biological isolator facilities have been established to facilitate clinical development of human cell-based therapies. Established under the auspices of the Victorian Consortium for Cell-based Therapies (VCCT), the isolators provide a complete barrier from environmental and operator-borne contamination and are therefore ideally suited for aseptic processing.

Florey Behavioural suite

The Florey’s Behavioural Phenotyping facility provides an opportunity to establish and/or expand the characterisation a vast array of rodent models. Our state of the art equipment and testing capability enable both powerful and sensitive screening of rodent behaviours.

Stem Core

The SCA Stem Cell Core facility at the Melbourne Brain Centre provides essential services for Australian scientists using pluripotent stem cells in their research. SCA resources support bioengineering, nanotechnology, stem cell biology, advanced molecular analysis and clinical research activities

ACRF Centre for Translational Cancer Therapeutics and Imaging

Established through a $2 million grant from the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, the Centre includes a Mediso Nanoscan PET/MRI Imaging Platform, a Mediso Nanoscan SPECT/CT Imaging Platform and an IVIS Spectrum Bioluminescent and Fluorescence Imaging Unit for medical research and preclinical investigations.

Victorian Cancer Biobank

The Victorian Cancer Biobank is a not-for-profit consortium of tissue banks, supported by the Victorian Government through the Victorian Cancer Agency. Our purpose is to provide high quality, ethically obtained biospecimens to support research that will lead to improvements in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Victorian Brain Bank

The Victorian Brain Bank (VBB) has the function of providing Australian and International researchers with easy access to clinically and neuropathologically well-characterised post-mortem human brains and related samples.

Preclinical Imaging Facility

The PCI at Peter Mac specialises in the conduct of non-invasive small animal imaging with a focus on PET.

NHMRC Australian Phenome Bank

Neuro Research Services

Neuroscience research services offers access to a rodent neuro-phenotyping facility

Mouse Cardiology Research Platform

Methodologies used: Microsurgery for induction of heart diseases in mice Echocardiography (non-invasive functional assessment) Micromanometry (hemodynamics) Radiotelemetry for assessment of conscious in vivo cardiovascular parameters Immunohistochemistry and quantitative histology Flow cytometry Routine cellular and biochemical assays

Micromon

Micromon's DNA sequencing service is one of the key core facilities in Australia and has a nationwide reputation for its high quality data and reliable, customer-focused service. Micromon has an established high-throughput sequencing facility utilising Illumina Next-generation platform technology and this is coupled with access to a PC3/QC3 Quarantine bio-containment laboratory for imported biologicals.

HTCS (High-throughput Chemical Screening) Facility

The HTCS Facility houses a Lead Discovery library currently containing ~200,000 compounds and robotics platforms to screen these small molecule chemical entities against biological targets of interest for drug discovery or for chemical biology outcomes

Fragment Screening

Encompasses and uses the CSIRO Biomolecular Interaction Facility and the CSIRO Bio21 Crystallisation Centre to screen libraries of fragments as the first step towards rational drug design

ES Cell to Mouse & CRISPR Service

The Australian Phenomics Network (APN) brings together multiple services with world-class infrastructure and expertise for the creation, characterisation and cryopreservation of mouse models of human disease. Generous funding from Federal/ State government, research institutions and NHMRC means the APN can offer researchers access to services at a greatly reduced cost.

AAHL - Australia's biocontainment laboratory

AAHL is a world class high-containment facility enabling research and diagnostics on the most dangerous animal and zoonotic pathogens. Extensive laboratories and expertise at physical containment levels 3 and 4 available for collaborative and fee-for-service research.
