By the twelfth month of 2014, the VPTN delivered: 20 articles written promoting VPTN facilities, 15 new member facilities, 7 professional development events, 2 new online services, 2 networking events – and a Showcase at the Synchrotron!

In 2014, the VPTN proudly launched a suite of tools to connect potential customers in industry and academia to VPTN facilities through our website, PlatformConnect and ARIN, allowing customers to Browse, Connect and Engage with facilities.

Allows customers to book instruments, services and products online. For facility managers, ARIN incorporates scheduling, billing and integrated reporting.


VPTN’s priority is bringing together facilities, industry and researchers to network and innovate. Our networking event in March was a teaser before the main event – the VPTN’s “Discover. Connect. Grow.” annual showcase in September. We held our final networking event for the year at the Tuscan Bar, drenched in afternoon sunlight with food and drinks flowing. The relaxed afternoon made for a great way to reflect on the year passed and discuss plans for next year. Congratulations to Simon Monard from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical research for taking out our PlatformConnect door prize.

VPTN continued to deliver a program of professional developments tailored to facility managers and the unique challenges they face; addressing business management, marketing and operational topics. Here’s a summary of the professional development and networking program for 2014:

Promotion of VPTN Facilities

The VPTN welcomed over 15 new facilities to the network this year and promoted Victoria’s capabilties at local, national and international events, targeting a broad range of researchers and industry from a variety of disciplines. During the year, VPTN also sent 12 newsletters containing information on latest equipment, events and jobs in the sector to over 800 subscribers of facilities, researcher and industry personnel.
